What if distributed energy cost less than the grid...
Please note:
We have now moved to brand new website.
The access: group is a focused design team based in the heart of the informal manufacturing sector in Kisumu, Western Kenya. We connect small scale East African manufacturers with world class engineers and researchers - creating cleantech that makes sense on the ground.
Our current project, access:wind has developed a micro wind turbine that can be built by anyone in any developing country, without need for imports, industrial machinery, or large interventions. An access:wind turbine produces electricity 3 times cheaper than solar PV and is far more cost effective than any other household electricity option. The raw materials are all available locally, all that is needed is basic knowledge.
We are pursuing truly appropriate technology design by tapping directly in to local knowledge. We work to meet enormous demand for low cost renewable energy with local jobs, local skills and local products.
Metal workers, auto mechanics and small scale manufacturers - these are the people who are going to build the clean energy future in emerging economies.
"Our challenge is transformation... We need a global clean energy revolution - a revolution that makes energy available and affordable for all" - UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon.
